Romney: Time to leave disappointments behind

(AP) ? Mitt Romney's mission in this election: connect with Americans on a personal level.

He sought to do so Thursday by appealing to feelings of anxiety ? if not disappointment ? that's rippling through the electorate as the nation faces stubbornly high unemployment and fears about its future place in the world.

"Hope and change had a powerful appeal. But tonight I'd ask a simple question: If you felt that excitement when you voted for Barack Obama, shouldn't you feel that way now that he's President Obama?" Romney will say as he formally accepts the Republican presidential nomination Thursday night, according to prepared remarks. "You know there's something wrong with the kind of job he's done as president when the best feeling you had, was the day you voted for him."

Aides said the speech was the most important of Romney's political career and will forever change his family's legacy. In winning his party's presidential nomination, the former Massachusetts governor has succeeded where his father failed a generation ago. But facing a two-month sprint to an Election Day matchup against President Barack Obama, Romney is now trying to broaden his appeal and connect with women and with middle-of-the road voters who will ultimately decide his fate.

To do so, he is trying to strike a soft tone laced with deeply personal themes. He will draw from his Mormon faith and the influence of his mother and father ? both dead for more than a decade ?when he faces the Republican National Convention and a prime-time audience.

"My mom and dad gave their kids the greatest gift of all ? the gift of unconditional love. They cared deeply about who we would be, and much less about what we would do," Romney will say, according to prepared remarks released by the campaign.

George Romney, a Michigan governor, ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 1968 when Romney was a young man. His mother, Lenore, ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate in Michigan in 1970.

"My mom and dad were true partners, a life lesson that shaped me by everyday example. When my mom ran for the Senate, my dad was there for her every step of the way," Romney said.

The remarks will be delivered on a stage that puts him a little bit closer to the crowd inside the convention hall. His campaign hopes the evening ends with Americans feeling a little bit closer to the Republican presidential candidate, too.

On this night, they are telling Romney's story

The entire evening ? from the physical staging to the speakers' program to the planned whole-family entrance after Romney's big speech ? is aimed at introducing the sometimes stiff and distant politician as a businessman, Olympic savior and deeply religious family man. His pitch to his party, as well as to the many undecided voters who are disappointed in the country's direction, will be that he's the candidate better able to shoulder the country's economic burdens.

"To the majority of Americans who now believe that the future will not be better than the past, I can guarantee you this: If Barack Obama is re-elected, you will be right," Romney will say.

Romney's speech is the centerpiece of the evening, and will touch on themes that are both personal and political. He'll tell stories, aides say, that haven't been part of his campaign trail pitch. He'll discuss his Mormon faith, particularly his time helping struggling families when he served as a church leader in Boston.

"Like a lot of families in a new place with no family, we found kinship with a wide circle of friends through our church," he will say. "We prayed together, our kids played together and we always stood ready to help each other out in different ways."

To prepare for the big night, Romney has spent months making meticulous notes about his experiences campaigning. He's read numerous previous convention speeches and talked to a number of close friends and confidants about how to approach his address. He and his wife, Ann, spent part of last weekend rehearsing their speeches in an auditorium at Brewster Academy in Wolfeboro, N.H., near the family's lakeside summer home.

When the big moment comes, he'll be standing in the Tampa Bay Times Forum on a stage that organizers rebuilt overnight. They replaced what had been a standard stage at the front of the hall with a section that pushes the podium toward the center of the floor, so Romney will physically stand among the crowd as he speaks.

"It brings him a little bit closer," campaign manager Matt Rhoades said of the new arrangement.

Before Romney speaks, a parade of people from his past will take to the podium to walk through different phases of his life: his time running the private equity firm Bain Capital, his years running the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City and his experiences as governor of Massachusetts. Referred to inside the campaign as "character witnesses," the speeches are designed to showcase the man who friends say inspires fierce loyalty. Much of the list was drawn up by Romney's son Tagg, who found acquaintances from their Mormon church in Massachusetts to talk about how his father helped them get by.

Among those set to address the crowd are Bob White, a longtime friend and colleague from Bain Capital, and Tom Stemberg, the founder of Staples, the office supply store; Olympic speed skater Derek Parra and hockey player Mike Eruzione; and former Massachusetts Lt. Gov. Kerry Healey, who is still a closer adviser.

Shortly before 10 p.m. Eastern time, organizers will run a film showcasing Romney's life. A handful of young video staffers have spent weeks working 16-hour days inside a suite at the Marriott hotel where Romney is now staying, editing the piece through the wee hours of the morning.

Then, it will be Romney's turn. When the speech is over, he'll walk back up the stage to where his entire family ? wife, five sons and their wives, and 15 of his 18 grandchildren ? will be waiting. Thousands of balloons nestled in netting high above the convention floor will drop, carefully positioned so that none fall on the family.

It will create the image his campaign is looking for. At that Marriott hotel the morning of the speech, Rhoades saw a copy of Thursday's Tampa Bay Times, where, on the front page, running mate Paul Ryan and his family are pictured waving after his Wednesday night address, the vice presidential nominee's arm wrapped around the waist of his wife, Janna.

Rhoades pointed at the photo.

"We need that," he said.

Union counter offer expected in NHL labor talks

(AP) ? The NHL and NHLPA remained at an impasse in the latest round of collective bargaining talks as the deadline for a lockout looms.

The players' association took issue Wednesday with the latest NHL proposal that commissioner Gary Bettman called "meaningful" and "significant."

Donald Fehr, the NHLPA's executive director, and his assistants have broken down Bettman's latest offering. Fehr is expected to make a counterproposal as early as Thursday.

The two sides are at odds over hockey-related revenue. The league wants to knock down the players' percentage to 46. The players' share of HRR was 57 percent last season. Fehr said changes in how HRR is calculated would see the amount of money players give up to escrow increase "significantly." Under the NHL's proposal, the union said current contracts would not be paid in full.

"From a players' standpoint, you should understand, it doesn't make much of a difference," Fehr said Wednesday. "Should the player not get the dollar value that is on his contract because there is a rollback, which is simply a name for crossing out one number and writing in another, or whether he doesn't get an amount because there is escrow, he still doesn't get it."

The current CBA expires Sept. 15 and the league has said it will lock the players out if a new agreement isn't in place by then. Bettman says he's content to wait for that aforementioned response from the union, but declared that players shouldn't feel any "entitlement" to 57 percent of revenues.

Unlike the current CBA in which salaries are tied into revenues, the league's plan calls for the first three years to be separated from HRR. Also, HRR would be redefined in the final three years of the six-year CBA.

The cap ceiling would drop to $58 million for next season. It would rise to $60 million in 2013-14 and top out at a projected $71 million in 2017-18.

The league and players set the cap ceiling for the 2012-13 season at $70.2 million in a joint statement released in June.

That means 16 teams would be forced to shed varying amounts of salary under the league's proposal. A short list of those teams are the Boston Bruins, Minnesota Wild, Vancouver Canucks, Calgary Flames, Philadelphia Flyers, Toronto Maple Leafs, Chicago Blackhawks, Los Angeles Kings, Pittsburgh Penguins, Washington Capitals and New York Rangers.

Owners Craig Leipold (Minnesota), Murray Edwards (Calgary), Jeremy Jacobs (Boston), and Ted Leonsis (Washington) are on the league's negotiating committee, along with Toronto general manager Brian Burke.

Limiting the personnel at the bargaining table in the hope of making progress, only Fehr and his top assistant, Steve Fehr, met with Bettman and NHL Deputy Commissioner Bill Daly when the second proposal was issued Tuesday. Traditionally, several players have joined in on the talks, though many returned on Wednesday.

In fact, the Fehrs were accompanied by NHLPA special consultant Mathieu Schneider, as well as Mike Komisarek (Toronto), Douglas Murray (San Jose), George Parros (Florida), Chris Phillips (Ottawa), Kevin Shattenkirk (St. Louis), Kevin Westgarth (Los Angeles), Craig Adams (Pittsburgh), Nick Bonino (Anaheim), B.J. Crombeen (Tampa Bay), Alex Goligoski (Dallas) and Ron Hainsey (Winnipeg).

Hockey-related revenue is the figure used to calculate the salary cap, with players receiving 57 percent, and the NHL has proposed changes that would lessen the total pot available.

"What we're trying to do with the definition of changes is better reflect the reality," Bettman said.

Fehr said the changes have served to complicate negotiations.

The proposal the league tabled Tuesday called for revenues to be split 50-50 for the final three years. However, by the union's calculation, the actual number players would end up receiving is equivalent to 46 percent under the current system ? a claim Bettman acknowledged to be "in the ballpark."

With the ambiguity created by the redefinition of HRR, not to mention a smaller pot of money to draw salaries from, the players are calling for the status quo.

"From our side, it's better to leave things the same because everyone understands what they mean and everyone understands what the effect is," Fehr said. "It makes it much easier that way."

Bettman said the time is right for a change.

He said the reduction in the players' share of HRR would be 11.5 percent next season, 8.5 percent in 2013-14 and 5.5 percent in 2014-15. He expects the players' share to rise beginning in the fourth year, stating that the league believes it "would have caught up.

"The fact of the matter is if the players have been getting 57 percent, we were getting 43 percent," he said, "and we were paying all the expenses of running the game, running the league and running our clubs.

"(If there's) any sense that our initial offer didn't have any sense of fairness to it, then you need to consider what is fair looking at both sides."

Bettman said the NHL still wants to make a deal on a "timely basis."

Talks are expected to resume Thursday afternoon, though there is a possibility they could be pushed to Friday.

S.Africa seeks mine peace, wage deal may be elusive

RUSTENBURG, South Africa (Reuters) - Feuding South African unions, platinum producer Lonmin and government officials tried on Wednesday to broker a peace accord at a mine where 44 people were killed in the worst such violence since the end of apartheid.

They also want to use the meeting to start wage talks over the dispute that has paralysed production at Lonmin's Marikana mine and raised worries of unrest spreading through the country's platinum sector, further shaking the economy.

Bringing all the parties together to secure a symbolic peace deal could prove successful, but the strike at Lonmin's Marikana mine, northwest of Johannesburg, may be far tougher to resolve.

"If there is no 12,500 rand a month, no workers will be going back," Zolisa Bodlani, a representative for the striking workers, said ahead of the meeting.

Strikers say they have sacrificed too much to settle for less than their demands. Lonmin said it had an average 7.7 percent attendance across all shafts on Wednesday morning.

Mining operations at Lonmin, the world's third largest producer of platinum, have been effectively frozen for more than two weeks due to the labour strife, sending spot prices for the metal up and share prices for Lonmin down.

The 3,000 strikers are mostly rock driller operators, who the company says are paid about 9,800 rand with an average monthly bonus of 1,500 rand.

The killing of miners in the worst security incident since the end of apartheid in 1994 has steeled the resolve of strikers who see their dead comrades as martyrs and feel any compromise will be a sellout.

Thirty-four were killed in a hail of police gun fire. Ten people, including two police officers and two security guards, were hacked to death days earlier.

Many of the striking miners also do not have a recognised union bargaining on their behalf.

Many have moved to the camp of the upstart and militant Association of Mineworkers and Construction Union (AMCU) and it is not clear who is representing who in all cases.

Some just wait in their shacks near the mine staying away until someone secures them a better deal.

INTIMIDATION

But almost all of the strikers feel the established National Union of Mineworkers has failed them - caring more about mine bosses and political leaders than the worker in shafts.

The dominant NUM has been able to keep peace in the sector by typically limiting the duration of strikes to periods that do not cause major harm to the bottom line of mining firms or the purse strings of miners who lose out on wages.

NUM represents about 11,000 of the 28,000 workers at Lonmin but it has not been able to get its members to return to their posts, with many too intimidated by possible attacks from AMCU members and strikers to go back to their jobs.

Lonmin is within its rights to fire the 3,000 for launching an illegal strike, but three people were killed in a similar dispute at Impala Platinum earlier this year where it sacked workers for an illegal strike.

Lonmin will be cautious of sparking more violence at Marikana, especially when it is facing a government investigation for its role in the deaths at the mine.

With some of the highest labour costs in the sector, it will also be reluctant to hike personnel expenses, especially at a time when platinum miners are seeing their balance sheets strained by low spot prices.

The African National Congress government also has its hands tied due to its close ties to labour federation COSATU, which has the NUM as its flagship union.

Opposition politicians have criticised the ANC for being too concerned about increasing wages for COSATU members and not doing enough to end an income disparity that is among the worst in the world.

The incident dubbed "The Marikana Massacre" has hit the base of support that brought President Jacob Zuma to power, with ANC insiders telling Reuters that Zuma's foes plan to use the incident to discredit the president as they jockey for power at elections for party leaders in December.

The base pay for miners is about $500 a month but when bonuses and benefits are added the average miner grosses over double that, according to industry and government data.

The median figure masks stark differences across the pay scale. The money goes quickly. Most miners maintain two households, with one on or near the mine site and the other for extended families. The typical miner supports 8-10 people.

Cancer: Can Green Tea Treat Skin Cancer?

Some of the most promising cancer research going on today involves the use of green tea and its ability to prevent cancer and even treat cancer in patients who have already been diagnosed with the disease. Researchers are examining many possibilities for how green tea might be used, and working to determine the cancer types for which it holds the most promise.

Over the last few years, scientists have learned a great deal about the importance of a diet rich in anti-oxidants. Anti-oxidants are a powerful tool in slowing down the aging process and preventing disease. They are even more important than even with the number of processed foods we consume. Fresh fruits and vegetables are rich in anti-oxidants, as is dark chocolate and green tea. Coffee is also a source of anti-oxidants, though it is not nearly as rich in them as green tea.

The process our bodies go through to convert our food to energy creates free radicals each day. Free radicals are oxygen containing molecules that damage our cells and DNA. If we don?t combat them, the make us age more quickly, they contribute to the development of blocked arteries and the make us more susceptible to the diseases and problems of aging.

So, it?s certain that we all need to consume a high level of anti-oxidants as part of our everyday diet. But, of particular interest are the anti-oxidants in green tea. Asian cultures consume a large amount of green tea, and have espoused its healing properties for centuries. And, it just so happens that they have a much lower incidence of cancer and heart disease.

There are, of course, other differences between Asian culture and ours. Notably, we are far more likely to be overweight; and research has shown us that obesity is a significant risk factor for many diseases including cancer and heart disease. However, one other interesting fact; Asian cultures, particularly Japanese men are far more likely to smoke than we are, yet they still have a much lower incidence of cancer and heart disease.

So, green tea is of significant importance in our quest to live longer and be healthier. There are hundreds of studies that have shown that green tea is a good cancer preventative and can increase the effectiveness of cancer treatments.

One important study is linked to skin cancer. According to the American Cancer Society, skin cancer is the most common of all cancers. Melanoma is the most deadly form of skin cancer. While only 4% of skin cancer cases are melanoma, it causes more deaths than any other type of skin cancer.

The number of new cases of melanoma is on the rise in the US- an estimated 62,000 Americans will be diagnosed in 2006, and about 8000 people will die from melanoma in the US this year. Nonmelanoma is extremely common. It is estimated that about one million people develop nonmelanoma cancer each year; this is about the same number of people who contract all other types of cancer combined. However, people rarely die from nonmelanoma ? only about 1000 each year in the US.

Since skin cancer is so prevalent in our country, it?s critical that we spend time and money researching how we can treat this cancer. Of course, skin cancer is, in part, preventable. So, as part of a healthy lifestyle we should be diligent about protecting ourselves from the sun, because this is the most important aspect of preventing both types of skin cancer.

To reduce your risk of skin cancer, be sure that you are always protected from the sun, even on cloudy days, and even in the winter. Cover as much of your body as possible with clothing, and use sunscreen with an SPF of 15 or higher on any areas that you cannot cover. Be sure to follow the directions on sunscreen closely; many people do not use enough sunscreen and do not reapply it often enough.

As scientists are researching ways to prevent and treat skin cancer, the results involving green tea are promising. One particular study reported by the Alternative Medicine Review showed excellent results in skin cancer prevention and treatment in mice with the use of green tea both applied topically and given orally*.

In this study, mice were exposed to about seven different kinds of carcinogens, all of which are known to cause or contribute to skin cancer. The mice were divided into groups. Some of the groups were treated with green tea by substituting it for their drinking water. Others were treated topically with green tea extract. Some of the groups of mice were already suffering from skin cancer, as well.

The research was conducted so that mice undergoing exposure to each different carcinogen were treated with green tea in both forms. For example, some of the mice being exposed to UVB rays were treated with only oral green tea, while others were treated with only topical green tea extract.

The research concluded that all of the mice benefited from the green tea treatment, whether it was given orally or applied topically. In every group, the green tea was effective at preventing skin cancer. The study found that green tea applied topically seems to scavenge and destroy skin cells that are likely to become cancerous before they can mutate.

The green tea, whether given orally or applied topically, slowed down the cancer growth in the mice that were already infected. In addition, green tea given orally seemed to cause some regression of existing skin cancer.

Of course, these results are very promising. If this research is a good indicator of how green tea might work in humans, as well, then topically applied green tea may become the new trend in skin products. In addition, these findings support other findings that conclude that drinking green tea is effective in preventing and treating many forms of cancer.

The next step, of course, is to conduct human trials to see if the same results prove true. It certainly seems that we have enough information to suggest that green tea should be part of everyone?s diet for its ability to slow down aging and prevent disease.

The most exciting news from this study is the idea that we might benefit dramatically from the simple step of applying a form of green tea to our skin. Addition of green tea to our sunscreens, lotions and moisturizers could have a dramatic effect on the number of skin cancer diagnosed each year. And, even for those already diagnosed with skin cancer, green tea applied to the skin might prove to be an effective treatment to kill the cancer cells, or at least slow down their progression.

Online Relationships | Luv and Relationships

Scenario: You meet this great girl, things are going well; she makes you smile and your belly gets flutters whenever you hear her voice. It?s been a month and you are falling hard for her, you love her. The two begin to discuss moving in together and children get to know the other partner. The sex is great; you two have sex every morning and night. It?s getting really serious. You pass the days with hours on the phone, Oovoo and Skype. You feel like you know her better than anyone. This has to be the real thing. It?s love. The only problem you haven?t met her yet!

With the increase in online dating, I?ve noticed that many lesbian women are opting for long distance relationships. ?This trend is increasingly rising as people see they?re able to expand their dating pool; meaning now a someone in New York who you may have never met, and never been an option due to ?distance, is now in the running.

Various advances in technology bring a variety of dating options. The most common of these is Long Distance and/or online dating. I have had several lesbian relationships where I have fallen head over heels for women I had never even met. I often met them on social networking sites such as Facebook or in mutual social groups within Facebook. Tagged, Facebook, Twitter, MySpace and other social networking sites, make it easy to connect.? Online, Long distance relationships are becoming extremely popular in the LGBT community, especially with lesbians. The most common reason is that it?s hard to tell who?s gay just by looking at them. On the internet or social networking site, a person?s sexual preference is provided for you. There is no misunderstanding, no wondering, and it takes the fear out of hitting on a woman who may be offended because she?s heterosexual.

Oovoo and Skype have brought your potential mate right in front of your face via web cam. You can now sleep together, shower together, eat together, meet family and friends and maintain an intimate relationship. This technology is free and anyone can use it. Once you have an account you add people you know, dial them up and?voila! there they are on the screen in real time.

Feeling a little frisky? Your mate may be thousands of miles across the globe but you can set up the camera, and let the foreplay begin. As your partner talks, you can follow their instructions as to what part of the body to touch, describe how it feels and mutually masturbate all while watching them. There is no substitute for that human contact where intimacy is concerned but sex via web cam is pretty darn close. Phone sex is also common amongst long distance daters as well. You describe exactly what you are doing to your mate, talk dirty and masturbate, all while they are on the other end of the phone.

You?re probably wondering just how much you can get to know someone so well that you fall completely head over heels for them over a computer. The answer is simple. through modern technology dating is put right at your fingertips. In my opinion, online dating is based on emotional attachments; how someone makes us feel, it is the belief that what they are telling you is the absolute truth. We can?t see their body language over a screen; we can?t hear their voice, so we trust that what they say is ultimately true. Eventually, you fall for them and exchange numbers and hopefully their tone, pitch, and voice confirm what you already believe. Like any story being told, it is the authors? perspective.

Online and long distance dating can become expensive as time passes. The two make travel plans and the person with the most flexibility and financial means does the traveling. You often experience high levels of endorphins when you meet. However, leaving can be stressful and comes with uncertainty as to when you will see your partner again. This stress often takes a toll on the relationship, or at least in my case it did. I began to miss her and found myself wishing she was there in day to day activities. Once time has passed, feelings and emotions grew, and we began to focus on how to close the gap on the distance. Then the day comes when the dreaded question must be answered. Who?s going to be the one to move? This can be extremely challenging especially if there are children involved, job relocation must be considered and not to mention moving takes money. ?I fell hook, line and sinker. I packed up my bags, my children, and everything I could put into my 1986 Chevy suburban and left Texas for California. Unfortunately in my case, it didn?t turn out to be love; it instead became a lesson learned (more on that?later).

Online dating was once reserved for those caught up in the rat race, too busy for the time consuming task of dating. This is no longer the case; it is rapidly becoming the norm. I believe as with anything, you must use caution. There is no way to know who you are really talking to behind that computer screen, but something innate is willing to take that gamble. We approach with caution, conscious of the dangers that could be lurking but hopeful things really are just as they seem.

Ultimately the goal is to find love, give love and be loved in return. Zapp and Roger?s prediction came true? Computer love is a now a reality.

ImmunoGen-Roche breast cancer drug aids survival

NEW YORK (AP) ? Drugmakers ImmunoGen Inc. and Roche said Monday that a promising breast cancer treatment extended patients' lives in a late-stage clinical trial.

The companies did not say how much longer patients lived when they were treated with T-DM1, which is designed to deliver Roche's drug Herceptin directly to cancer cells. However, ImmunoGen said there was a "significant improvement in overall survival," or the time patients lived after the start of treatment. The trial compared T-DM1 to two other standard drugs in almost 1,000 women with a particular type of advanced breast cancer.

The companies also said Roche's U.S.-based Genentech unit also filed for marketing approval of T-DM1 and Roche will soon file for approval in Europe. Roche is also planning to start new trials of T-DM1 against earlier stages of breast cancer.

ImmunoGen, based in Waltham, Mass., does not have any products on the market. Shares of the company rose 43 cents, or 3.1 percent, to $14.27 in afternoon trading.

In June, ImmunoGen and Roche said T-DM1 delayed the progression of breast cancer by several months. The companies said patients who were treated with the drug lived almost 10 months before death or disease progression, compared to a little more than six months for patients treated with two standard drugs, Tykerb and Xeloda.

T-DM1 combines trastuzumab, which is the main ingredient in Herceptin, with a second drug and a chemical that keeps the drugs linked until they reach a cancer cell, where the cocktail can be released. ImmunoGen developed the technology that combined the drugs. If the drug is approved, ImmunoGen will get royalty payments on those sales.

The trial involved 991 women with HER-2 positive breast cancer, a more aggressive type of the disease that is less responsive to hormone therapy.

In a note to clients, Cowen & Co. analyst Simos Simeonidis said he expects the Food and Drug Administration to approve T-DM1 in the first half of 2013. He said the drug appears to be very effective and safe, and it should quickly gain acceptance as a secondary treatment for breast cancer.

San Francisco Wedding Trends And Cool New Wedding-Inspired ...

I recently attended the Modern Luxury Weddings show held at The Ritz-Carlton in San Francisco. As I strolled?among?the 80 wedding vendors that filled the ornate ballrooms, I noticed some strong trends happening in the Bay Area wedding industry. I also noticed the way today?s modern DIY bride manages her prospective wedding has changed a great deal since I planned my own wedding five years ago.

I Do Venues Wedding Venue Resource App

The disposable cameras of yesteryear have been replaced with wedding apps that allow guests to check in or sign up at weddings to share their pictures with fellow guests. The headache of multiple CDs are over with photo-sharing services like Wedding Snap which instantly collects all the guest?s photos into one online album.

There is a growing number of wedding Apps now available on the iPhone and iPad to help brides manage their budget, guest lists, to do lists and much more. The recently launched I Do Venues app is designed to make the process of finding the perfect wedding venue an easier one. It offers a comprehensive directory designed to search for the best wedding venues in California.

The modern bride relies on wedding blogs to find inspiration and DIY tips on how to recreate certain design aspects themselves, rather than investing in expensive wedding magazines that are overrun by advertising. The I Do Venues? daily blog and app offers brides the opportunity to see various venues showcased in a variety of themes, color palettes and design styles alongside inspirational photo galleries. Co-founder Gloria Atherstone explains: ?I Do Venues? mission is to connect brides with the best weddings venues and vendors California has to offer.?

Sweet Lauren Cakes Wedding Cake Pops

Wedding Cake Pops (Photo Credit: Sweet Lauren Cakes)

The photo booth is growing in popularity at weddings as it offers a fun and interactive way to capture guests having fun and gives them a great memento to take home with them. There were a large number of them at the show but I particularly liked The Original Traveling Photo Booth for the personalized add-ons they offered including: thank you cards, photo strip collage and a great photo strip guest book.

Did you know that you can have a tired wedding cake made of cake pops? Cake pops are a trendy feature at weddings; whether you choose to have them as pretty favors on the tables or add a wow factor to a color coordinated dessert table. Lauren Martin the proprietor of Sweet Lauren Cakes showed us how versatile cake pops are, and can be made to any color palette or theme.

If a big and expensive wedding isn?t your cup of tea, then perhaps you want to join a growing number of people who chose elope instead. The company elopeinwinecountry offers couples an all-inclusive and affordable alternative by providing a unique, romantic garden setting, professional photography and personalized ceremony in the heart of the wine country.

Whether you chose to have a big blow out or a more intimate gathering for your wedding, there are so many tools available to make the planning process stress-free. Easy-to-use technology to share your memories of the day with guests who could or couldn?t attend and plenty of options to rival wedding traditions.

Whatever you decide, just make sure to take time on the day to be in the moment with the person who will be by your side for better or worse?even if it?s a quick smooch in the photo booth.

Jeff Bullas interview - Business 2 Community

At Social Media Down Under I got the chance to interview Jeff Bullas, an AdAge Power 150 blogger and top Aussie social media professional.

Here?s our interiew:

Adam Franklin: Hi it?s Adam Franklin, from Social Media Down Under. I?m here with Jeff Bullas, thank you for joining us today Jeff.

Jeff Bullas: It?s a pleasure Adam.

Adam Franklin: I?m keen to share with our audience on our blog and YouTube channel, can you tell me about the rise of these image sharing tools such as Instagram, and Pinterest.

Jeff Bullas: The web has become much more visual over the last 12 months and you might have noticed with the change of design for Facebook, the new timeline, cover photo. Also Google plus launching has put certain pressure on Facebook to evolve its platform. So seeing those two platforms evolve to provide higher definition larger images. We are also seeing the rise of platforms such as Pinterest and Instagram that communicate messages in a much more visual way. Also the popularity of infographics. These are all driving or creating new opportunities in terms of how we communicate online.

Adam Franklin: So should taking these visual tools into account when playing with peoples content marketing programs these days?

Jeff Bullas: Absolutely, so for example about 2 weeks ago I wrote a blog post containing a infographic that I?d pinned on Pinterest, and in checking the figures recently it?s had over 300 pins. Which means that infographic actually provides 300 links back to my blog. Now that?s a fairly powerful strategy for actually getting your content to spread and that?s the real challenge for most brands is getting the content to actually be shared and linked to.

Adam Franklin: Thanks very much for sharing that Jeff.

Small children when get seperated from their real parents undergo severe emotional turmoil and they can be brought back to their normal life by providing foster care. There are children who are driven out of their families or they come out of their homes due to fear, disappointment or hatred etc. For such children the foster parents can provide shelter, food and clothings for a temporary period and later under the initiative of the foster parents they can be reunited with their real parents. Those who voluntarily come forward as foster parents to other children must be prepared to provide safe accommodation and secured life to the children for few days or for few years. The children who are brought into foster families are able to shed their fear of insecurity and when they start to get the care and moral support of the carers they become hopeful of a secured and stable life.

The children who underwent a lot of sufferings and set backs during their childhood days undergo a transition when they are provided foster care. They start to grow physically as well as mentally, start developing their personality and set goals for them in their life. It is indeed a great service and the carers will be proud to see those brought up by them doing well in their life. Those who have enough support from their family members as well as friends can do much better in their roles as foster parents. Sometimes it may become strenuous as well as complicated and on such occasions support from others is quite necessary. Those who run such care centers must be in touch with other foster parents and by participation in the discussion forums and social functions arranged by various care centers provide them the opportunity to get acquainted to other foster parents and exchange their views and ideas.

Those who have their own family must obtain the consent of the family members prior to becoming carers. The partner and own children of the carer must be more than willing to share the home and facilities with those children who were brought into the family from outside. Adopting a child is quite different from being the carer of a child. Fostering is a temporary task. In case of adoption, adopted parents have legal responsibility of the child.
