Brace for a blustery evening commute - a strong wind advisory has been issued for Western Washington from Monday afternoon to Tuesday morning, bringing 45-50 mph wind gusts, lightning and steady rain.

KING 5 Meteorologist Jeff Renner says a strong system is bringing windy conditions (20-30 mph sustained winds) with gusts between 45-50 mph Everett northward and 25-35 mph south of Everett. Gusts to 50 mph are possible on the coast and northwest interior. Latest forecast
A glimpse at the KING doppler radar Monday afternoon showed a few thunderstorms (indicated by the lightning symbols) looming off the Washington coast and moving inland. KING 5 viewers in Port Angeles reported seeing lightning strikes in the area late afternoon.
"Thundershowers are possible until 7 p.m. with a wind advisory until 5 a.m. Tuesday," said Renner. "According to our Futurecast models, you can see some of the strongest winds likely weither Tacoma south and westward or from roughly Port Townsend up to Bellingham. We'll see a secondary spike around 9 p.m. tonight as a cold front moves through, and then that should diminish."
Winds will likely send tree leaves flying. High winds could bring down some branches or weakened trees and cause power outages. Fallen leaves could also clog storm drains and cause some urban flooding.
The high pressure will move through on Wednesday for a partly sunny day after areas of morning clouds and fog.? Highs will be mostly in the mid-50s.
